Sarah, Courtney and I took a road-trip this weekend. My parents had given me a weekend package for golf, dinner, and a night at a hotel. The two rounds of golf went to waste, but otherwise, we had a blast! We checked into the hotel, got all dolled up, and went to dinner. After an ok steak (they don't know the meaning of the word medium), I promptly lost $5 in the nickel/penny slots.
After Marksville, we drove to Courtney's grandmothers' house in Lake Charles. She fed us lunch, gave me a nickname (Lil' Bit), let us take naps and then it was time to get ready for a wedding. A few friends of ours were getting hitched and we were pretty excited about it. So once again, we get all dolled up, then headed to the hitchin'.
The wedding was beautiful. The bride was a vision. The groom was dashing. And then it was time for the reception...
At the reception, we danced the night away. I totally danced like the white girl I am. But once you toss your dignity out the window, you pretty much have free reign to have a good time. And that's exactly what I did. Most of the line dances I knew, but then I discovered something called Cajun dancing. No lie! I'm looking at Courtney with my brow furrowed cuz I've never seen it before and she's laughing at the expression on my face. I wanted to try it, but its one of those dances that you have to have a partner for. That was the one thing I didn't have in my sequined clutch purse. Which now that I think about it, it was probably wise that I didn't have anyone to drag out on that floor, because I would've definitely embarrassed the both of us.
Speaking of couples', a few of them caught my eye that day. The first one was an older gentlemen and his wife sitting right in front of me at the wedding. She was small and calmly sitting there, he was next to her with his arm around the pew at her back. They weren't saying anything. They were just sitting there. But there was something about the way they sat there that stood out to me. They were so comfortable with each other. All around me were people whispering to each other. Like they had to fill the silence with something. But not these two, they just sat there with the "I know this person like the back of my hand" kind of silence. They fit. And the site of them left me with a wisp of hope.
Another couple that had me smiling were the bride and groom. When they were announced as husband and wife, she started hopping up and down because she was so excited. Ah, it was truly lovely and so much fun to just be able to see them start their marriage off to love and laughter.
At the reception, there were a few pairs that had me laughing. There were the two boys who had each other in headlocks periodically throughout the whole night. Then there was the mom who pulled her tall son to dance with her, who was having absolutely none of it. The little girl dancing with her big brother. The woman singing into her partners ear as he swings her around the dance floor to "New Orleans Ladies." And the off-the-wall plain goofiness of my "dressed to kill" friends out on the dance floor.
All in all, it was a great weekend. Full of love and easy laughter...
